Junk Bonanza is thrilled to report that the San Diego Food Bank and its arm, the North County Food Bank, will be its nonprofit partner for the #sandiego show FEB 17-18 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds!
The Bonanza will donate $5 of each Early Bird ticket purchase for San Diego to the Food Bank. The proceeds will be applied in North County (where the Bonanza takes place) and each $5 provides 25 meals for those in need!
We are so excited to be a part of this outreach!
Additionally, Food Bank volunteers will operate a bag check, so you can shop without your previous purchases weighing you down! A donation of $5 is suggested, with all of the proceeds going to the Food Bank as well! We love that we — and you — can be part of such a worthy cause!
Some facts about the North County Food Bank:
- It, along with the San Diego Food Bank, feeds 400,000 people per month.
- The two food banks use a network of nonprofit partners — food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, low-income daycare and senior centers, faith-based organizations, schools and day centers — to distribute food directly to people in need.
- 1.2 million people live in North County which accounts for one-third of San Diego County’s population. The poverty rate in North County ranges from 10.3% to 20%, while the county’s average poverty rate is 14.7%. Several cities in North County have poverty rates exceeding 10%.
- Of the 400,000 people served monthly, 28,000 are low-income military personnel and their dependents; 10,000 are fixed-income seniors; more than 100,000 live at or near the poverty level and receive assistance through our Emergency Food Assistance Program; and 1,633 are elementary school children living in poverty who receive weekend backpacks full of food through our Food 4 Kids Backpack Program in 11 school districts in the San Diego County.
We look forward to seeing you at the Bonanza, and thank you in advance for your generosity! Our vintage-loving peeps are kind and generous! Thanks for sharing the love!
