@junkbonanza #sandiego welcomes new vendor UPcycled Works!

Andrea ONeil

Business name:

UPcycled Works

Live in/Business located:

Pine Valley, CA

Your style in three words:

simple, eclectic, quality

On your junking bucket list:

To go to the miles of flea markets in the Midwest and East Coast to dig for treasures. Also going to Spain in March; super-excited to hunt in another country for old jewelry.

You knew you were a junker when…

I was a teenager and my mom gave me all my grandmother’s jewelry. I wore some of it, even though it was so not the style. I also proceeded to pull a lot of it apart and glue it to vases and frames etc. I have always been drawn to old things and love the look of rhinestone with a bit of rust.

Best all-time junking find:

Tough one. Brass Cummins Engine Co. tags.

You wish you would never have parted with…

… every one of my one-of-a-kind treasures!

Bringing to the Bonanza:

Amazing show stoppers as well as my usual signature pieces — typewriter letter necklaces, Steampunk watch necklaces, vintage rhinestones transformed into jewelry, crosses, rosary bead chan, skeleton keys, tags, leather cuff bracelets embellished with fabulous brooches and tags. Pearls, bling, leather and of course a little rust! Many pieces are unisex.

You never junk without…

… my husband

In your garage: cars or junk?

props in the garage for all of the street fairs

No one would ever guess you…

… I try on every piece I make, go to the mirror to decide if it’s balanced right, hangs right and nothing comes loose. Then I may go back, make adjustments and try it on again. I really want it to be right and hang right when someone wears it. I search relentlessly for hours for the perfect item, I am always looking for very unusual pieces and if I can t find something i want, it makes it even more of a challenge and “I will” find it.

Best part of junking:

people I meet at shows

Junking makes you feel…

… inspired and giddy
